Helen Whately, MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, has been elected as Vice President of CPRE Kent.
At the charity’s AGM (November 20th), Mrs Whately was elected alongside fellow MPs Damian Green (Ashford) and Tracey Crouch (Chatham and Aylesford) who have been Vice Presidents of CPRE Kent since 2008 and 2012 respectively.
Commenting on her appointment, Mrs Whately said: “I am honoured to have been made a vice-president of CPRE Kent. The countryside is precious and CPRE works hard to protect it. In this part of the South East there’s enormous pressure to build and develop, but CPRE battle to preserve the open spaces of Kent for future generations. I know CPRE provides enormously valuable expert input to planning applications, as I saw first-hand in the public enquiry for the Waterside Park development at Junction 8 of the M20. I look forward to working with CPRE Kent on future campaigns.”
The AGM also saw the Kent artist, author and humourist Graham Clarke re-elected as president and Christine Drury re-elected as Chairman.
